Kamalpreet Kaur

President

Kamalpreet Kaur is currently a senior, majoring in Community Health. As President, her goal is to improve student communication with USG and administration to better serve the Hunter community. Previously as Cultural Affairs Commissioner, she strengthened the relationship between club leaders and USG through club walkthroughs, monthly newsletters and advocated for their concerns and wellbeing to the rest of USG. This year she plans to continue listening to student insights and needs as well as continuing and expanding student-friendly initiatives such as events, town halls, student democracy project, and the purple PEERiod Project. 

Gillian Blanco

Vice President 

Gillian Blanco is a current senior majoring in Human Biology, aspiring to become a Physician Assistant. This is her third year in USG, in the past she has served as Sophomore Senator and Head of the USG Ambassador Program. She looks forward to work diligently to represent the voice of the undergraduate student body. Specifically, Gillian hopes to increase awareness of the wide array of resources USG provides to students.

Elise Wang

Finance Commissioner

Elise Wang is a junior majoring in Biology Neuroscience and minoring in Public Policy. Last year, she served as a Sophomore Senator and a co-leader for both the Students Stand up Campaign against Sexual Assault and the Mental Health Awareness Initiative. Elise plans to continue to advocate on behalf of Hunter students, and work with faculty, administration, and students organizations to improve the Hunter College experience.

Alexia Morrison

Cultural Affairs Commissioner

Alexia Morrison is a rising transfer student in her junior year. She is currently double majoring in Human Biology and Business; with hopes of obtaining her License as a Practical Nurse and her Master’s in Health Administration. Her passions include fundraising for displaced citizens and working towards providing stable homes for displaced families. Her goals as your current Cultural Affairs Commissioner include: molding Hunter’s campus into a welcoming atmosphere for current and new students, increasing school pride and encouraging more students to be active in clubs and in campus wide activities.

Hardik Bhaskar

Student Welfare Commissioner

Hardik Bhaskar is a Junior, majoring in Biochemistry and Studio Art; planning going to Medical School. Hardik is also part of the Men's Track and Field Team at Hunter. Through out his career at Hunter College, Hardik has taken part in many volunteering opportunities offered and is an active member in many clubs around campus. As the Student Welfare Commissioner, Hardik plans to work towards greater awareness toward Sexual Assault, the LGBTQ Community, Mental Health, and overall Wellness of the student body. His vision is to embrace a closer knit and welcoming community in Hunter College. Gaelle Chawki

Evening Affairs Commissioner

Gaelle Chawki is a Senior majoring in Human Biology. As an Ambassador, she was able to learn the ins and outs of USG's events and how USG handles its events. She was able to see the impact that USG has on the Hunter community. She is very excited to take on a greater role as the Evening Affairs Commissioner. She is very dedicated to the students of Hunter and is eager to encourage the student body to participate in the fun giveaways and nighttime events that Hunter has to offer. Her goal is to make students feel that they truly are a part of this school and that they are enjoying their time at Hunter by providing them with the greatest experiences possible.

Sabina Kubayeva is a rising sophomore in the Macaulay Honors program majoring in Behavioral Neurobiology and minoring in Classical Studies on a pre-med track. She aspires to obtain her MD/PhD and become a medical examiner because of her interest in forensics. Outside of Hunter, Sabina does research at SUNY Downstate about a memory molecule and its association with Alzheimer’s Disease. Sabina was first a USG Ambassador in her freshmen year and decided to continue her involvement as Residence Life Commissioner, in which she hopes to create a better sense of community at Hunter’s dorms by planning fun and accessible events.

 

Raisa Karim is a junior majoring in Biochemistry and Thomas Hunter Honors. She became involved with student government in her freshman year as a USG ambassador and then served as a freshman senator during her sophomore year. Her interest in student government stemmed from a desire to have a rewarding college experience. By actively listening to students and working with them to address their concerns, she hopes to promote civic literacy, awareness and engagement among the undergraduate population. Monira Hasan

External Affairs Commissioner

Monira Hasan is a rising Junior Yalow Scholar majoring in psychology, aspiring to obtain a PhD in Clinical Psychology. During her time at Hunter College, she volunteered at multiple hospitals, including Morgan Stanley's Children's Hospital as a Child Life and Pediatric ED Volunteer. As the External Affairs Commissioner, she hopes to continue expanding on the Hunter USG Website so students can be encouraged to pursue a variety of opportunities involving other clubs, focus on improving outreach initiatives, and working closely with on-campus organizations and her committee to promote various school-wide events that bring together the diverse Hunter student body.

Laiba Afzal

Senior Senator

Laiba Afzal is a senior majoring in Human Biology and Psychology on the Pre-med Track. As Senior Senator, she hopes to work closely with the student body and take their opinions into account to help fix issues they care about. She hopes to create more extracurricular activities that bridge the gap between student leaders and the student body, as well as structure a student run course rating system that informs more on courses taken by other students so students could accurately assess different classes.

Muhammad Afaq

Senior Senator

Hey, My name is Muhammad Afaq and I’m an upcoming senior at Hunter College. I’m a pre-med majoring in Human Biology. I hold the position of Senior Senator and hope to work with my peers to make Hunter a more inclusive and enjoyable college experience for all. Some of my hobbies include working out, hanging out with my friends and traveling. My favorite place in Hunter would be be the sixth floor library, it’s great for socializing and you can almost always find me there if I’m not in class or out getting food. Hope to see you around !

Angela Bathija

Junior Senator

Angela Bathija is currently a Junior majoring in Human Biology. She is on the Pre-Dental track and plans to attend Dental School after Hunter. She is excited to collaborate with students to coordinate events to enhance students communication opportunities. Angela will suggest, develop, and implement solutions to problems related to campus life. Her goal is contribute her knowledge and resources to serve the student body as a liaison to create a close knit community on campus and beyond.

Hi! I am currently a senior and will be graduating in the Spring (time flew). I double major in Media Studies and English, with a minor in Legal Studies. I am also a Roosevelt Scholar and a member of the Pre-Law Program. My experience includes planning and running events, marketing and producing creative content. Outside of school and interning, I enjoy reading, writing and watching Netflix (don’t we all). I am super excited to bring fun and important initiatives to the student body and make their Hunter experience one they will cherish.

As a student at Hunter College for the past three years, I am extremely excited to represent our student body as a member of the Senate. I will ensure that we have a voice, one that is heard, and one that speaks for all students regardless of age, academic pursuits, lifestyles or backgrounds. I will prioritize student life and work towards bettering the sense of community at Hunter College. Iqra Ishaq

Hello my name is Iqra Ishaq and I am a senior senator. My major is psychology and I am highly motivated and involved student. For my free time I enjoy trying to go on adventures with my friends and family. In addition, I enjoy being involved on campus as it allows me to interact with new people and allows me to focus on myself and studies. Despite being a shy individual, being involved in USG thus far has allowed me to become more interactive and it allowed me to be more extroverted. Sumona Rahman

Junior Senator

Hello everyone! My name is Sumona Rahman and I am a Junior Senator in the Undergraduate Student Government. I am majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Sociology with plans to go into the health field. As a newly elected USG member, I plan to serve the Hunter community to the best of my ability and work with students to address their interests and concerns, to make their school year more memorable and impactful. Taqib Hemal

Junior Senator

Taqib Hemal is currently majoring in Biology at Hunter College, aspiring to be part of the medical field. He has been part of the Undergraduate Student Government for the past 3 years, serving as an ambassador and a FSDC official. During his time at Hunter, he has been part of numerous clubs and wants to continuously take an active part in the Hunter College community. As Junior Senator, he would voice the concerns of the Hunter community and suggest necessary changes as well as improve the engagement in Hunter events and clubs.

Lisha Rajput

Sophomore Senator

 

Lisha Rajput is a Junior double majoring in Political Science and Economics. Lisha intends to pursue a career in the legal sector, for which she has partaken in various legal internships and programs. Simultaneously, Lisha has a love for youth empowerment and education access — she focuses her interests and efforts towards facilitating and running a non-profit that bridges various gaps for first-generation, low-income, middle-school students. Blurring her assets, Lisha intends to employ her platform to cultivate an environment of comfort and inclusion. This means fostering event that cater to students’ interests, career and academic growth, and outlets of self-expression.

 

Zobaida Maria

Zobaida Maria is currently a Sophomore hoping to double major in Psychology and Special Education, much of which was motivated by her experience in Project Happy, Hunter’s activity program for Youth with disabilities. Working as a Disabilities Counselor enabled her with the unique position to understand the various concerns of those she works with, while also being objective to the matters at hand. It is her conviction in mental health awareness and a more accessible campus that motivated her to pursue the Freshman Senator position.

Hi! My name is Kiran Javaid and I am a Human Biology Major and a Human Rights Minor on the pre-med track. I have been involved in Student Government since high school and I am a strong believer in that if there is something you do not like, it is your responsibility to go out and change it. Nimra Aziz

Sophomore Senator

I'm on the pre-med track and double majoring in human bio and economics. I want to give Hunter students an opportunity to develop ideas by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects with USG. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, I want to let everyone know about Hunter’s clubs and gather students to promote change that will involve all Hunter kids in knowing about the clubs offered and how to become more involved as everyone should be able to have a voice. I want to make sure every Hunter student has a positive experience in college and that their needs are addressed. I believe USG should promote student services, such as the Office of Accessibility, which satisfy students needs.

Olenka Ballena

Olenka Ballena is a sophomore majoring in Political Science on a Pre-Law track. Being a member of Circle K has allowed her to develop her passion for community service and leadership. As freshman senator, she hopes to further enrich the opportunities offered to our student community, continuing to foster a diverse and engaging school environment. As students in a large school, she knows it’s easy to feel like a small fish in a big pond. However, her goal is to create a more integrated and unified student community, while taking advantage of all the resources a large school has to offer.

Rodela Ahmed

My name is Rodela Ahmed and I am a junior at Hunter. I am majoring in biology. I am excited to be part of Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation (AEC) as part of USG! As a former Ambassador, I have gained experience working alongside the Evening Affairs Committee to help plan for school events. As an AEC member, I hope to work on making decisions for allocating revenues for auxiliary enterprises and promise to get things done on time by helping to review and approve contracts and help allocate funds.

Srinidhi Rao

Srinidhi is a junior majoring in Media Studies with a minor in Film at Hunter College. She is part of The Olivetree Review staff, a literary and arts magazine, here at Hunter. She is a Muse Scholar and enjoys watching movies, reading, listening to music, and attending shows. She also enjoys the occasional long walk on the beach. Her goal is to assist Hunter students with their problems and boost communication between students and faculty. She understands that in order for students to thrive in an academic setting, they need amenities to allow them to do so. Being a lover of the arts, she wishes to help students solve their problems using creative yet efficient methods.

 

Priyal Thakkar

Priyal Thakkar is a sophomore in the pursuing a double major in biology and music. In her free time, she enjoys reading, binge watching tv shows and listening to music. In addition to these interests, she is passionate about providing her fellow students the ability to have an impactful, productive and engaging college experience. As a member of Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation, she is excited to work towards this in a cost-effective manner. She hopes to provide her fellow students with the resources to problem solve and achieve their short and long-term goals.

Laila Abouhasswa

Laila is a junior majoring in Human Biology and minoring in classics. She is a Yalow Scholar and Thomas Hunter Scholar and would like to become an optometrist. Laila is Vice President of the club UNICEF and has had several leadership roles in the past which have helped strengthen her communication skills. As a member of USG, she would like to become a liaison between the students and the student government in order to make Hunter less of a commuter school and more of an enjoyable college experience for her fellow peers.

Tasmia Promi

Tasmia is majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Classical Studies. When she isn’t studying, Tasmia loves to play soccer, watch Netflix, and is constantly making jokes. As a part of the Hunter community, she believes that students should have the opportunity to utilize their resources to optimize their undergraduate experience. Thus, as a College Association member, she’ll make sure student activity fees goes into this cause and any other causes that are meaningful to the Hunter community. She’ll make sure student activity fees are used efficiently so that every organization and program have the opportunity to voice their mission well.

Sadia is a senior majoring in Economics and minoring in Psychology. She hopes to become successful in the banking world one day. In her free time, she enjoys watching shows, shopping, and writing. As a member of USG, she hopes to make the experience of Hunter students more  enjoyable and delightful. She believes that even though Hunter is a commuter school, that should not stop Hunter students from being more involved in college activities and having fun.

Salwa Najmi

Salwa Najmi is a sophomore interested in majoring in biochemistry and minoring in public policy. She is passionate about improving the experiences of students at Hunter College and has previously served as a USG ambassador, assisting in the coordination of events and club-walkthroughs on campus as part of the Cultural Affairs committee. She hopes to facilitate a more fun and fair academic and social environment as part of the Faculty Student Disciplinary Committee.

Claude Guillaume

Claude Guillaume is currently a junior at Hunter College and is a member of the Yalow Scholars Program. He is majoring in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience. During his time at Hunter College, Claude has been volunteering for the CARE program at the Mount Sinai Hospital, working as a visitors center associate for Hunter, as well as participating in various clubs. He is pursuing a medical degree and aspires to be an anesthesiologist. As a member of USG, he looks forward to engaging with more students and improving communication between faculty and students.

Juliana Poroye

Juliana Poroye is a senior double majoring in philosophy and political science. She is an Athena Scholar with aspirations of going to law school. Poroye co-founded Hunter’s Slam Club, is an upperclasswoman student mentor in the ‘Let’s Get Ready Success Program’, and is passionate about education equity.

Aleena Khan

Aleena is a senior on the pre-med track. She is majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Economics. As a part of FSDC, she wants to make sure that the student body’s course-related issues are addressed accordingly. Aleena aims to connect the student body together, and have them more connected on campus. She believes that a positive learning environment is essential in each student’s academic success. As a part of FSDC, she wishes to improve every student’s college experience by making sure their class-related needs are properly addressed.

Orchida Harizaj

Orchida Harizaj is a junior double majoring in Media with a Concentration in Journalism and English Literature. An avid traveler and book enthusiast, Orchida hopes to one day write about her journeys and experiences to share, both, the beauties and the hardships of the world. She has always strived to help out in her community and offer her support to the people around her and as a USG member Orchida will do just that.


 

Annie Lin

As part of the Faculty-Student Discipline Committee, Annie Lin is a Biology major striving to strengthen the Hunter community by forming connections between students. It is stressful to be college students where everyone is so focused on their own coursework that it seems like there’s no time to make a friend. Not only does Annie want students acknowledge that friendships will help them get through their duration of the stressful college period, but they will also have earned a friend for a life-time. With that said, the community does not stop at Hunter, it follows with you wherever you go!
